New Year's resolutions and 2011 meme

My resolutions are:
1) Get piano lessons - teaching myself has been tough and everyone I speak to says that you really need lessons. So I'll pay for a few and will hopefully get further.
2) Get fit again. I've stopped eating so healthily so need to stop eating so much crap and start watching my calories again. I also intend to jog and exercise at home now that I've cancelled my gym membership.
3) Socialise even more. Catch up with old friends and make lots of new ones
4) Spend less time on the internet and read more non-fiction (in addition to my healthy love of fiction)
5) Enjoy my job (this one might be a bit harder..)

And now, because all the cool kids did it end of the year meme 2011Collapse )

CTA stress

My next exam is on Wednesday (tax advisory exam). Only about 30% of people who take it pass..I get three attempts at this exam but I really don't want to have to retake it because there are only two sittings a year - failing would delay me qualifying by 6 whole months..

I scraped a pass in the mock last week, failed the mock we did yesterday :/

So three days of frantic studying coming up.. I'd better stop panicking and get to work.

Hair

Pixie cut! And now I should stop procrastinating and get back to studying..

Tumblr

I've made a tumblr account to use like a scrap book - to post old photos I've taken and keep track of books, films, poems, songs etc I've enjoyed. I'm going to post something on it everyday for a while.

Here's the link if anyone is interested:

Yes I am AWESOME at procrastinating.

In Bruges

Got back yesterday from the Medieval town of Bruges in Belgium for a long weekend with Nick. I love the Eurostar - so much nicer than flying! It was very cold and cloudy every day but still very very pretty. Nice to get away from everything and relax in a quiet little town. You can just wonder down random streets and everything's still pretty and matches. As it's not a particularly lively place in the evening we ended up going to a burlesque slapstick play of "Moby Dick".. which was interesting..

Anyway, here are just a couple of photos:

I have some other stuff to write but I'm so tired after getting back late last night then a day of business school today.

Cooking

It's been nice not to have to study all the time at the moment and I've actually had time to cook proper meals rather than just very quick ones every night. In a way I quite like that I don't have to compete with Nick over cooking and he always seems to appreciate it when I make an effort which is nice :)

I skipped yoga this evening to come home and cook haha.

Tonight I made some gluten free brownies to take to pig_widgeon's new house tomorrow. Cooked them a bit less than I have before so they're nice and moist inside. I think I like them just as much cooked more though. I have a terrible unreliable oven which has hot and cold spots inside but brownies and biscuits ok with it (cakes on the other hand sometimes rise on one side more than the other..!) These are made with corn flour, rice flour and (secret ingredient) vanilla essence! I think I prefer brownies with some kind of flour in to flourless ones - less sickening but probably equally as bad for you! My ones are bizarrely shaped because I don't have a rectangular cake tin..

Since I had a huge bag of spinach I haven't had a chance to use yet I also made some spinach soup to freeze with lime zest and nutmeg. It's disturbingly green (but very healthy)!

I'm going to miss having the time to try new recipes and experiment once I have to start studying again :( Since it's been so cold I've had lots of fun in particular making up new soups with the food processor my parents bought me. One problem with me cooking a lot though is the amount I eat: I'm never happy to serve something to someone else unless I've tasted it myself..

My New Year's Resolutions

Writing goals down does seem to help me achieve them so here are my new year's resolutions:

1) Teach myself to play the keyboard

I asked my parents for an electronic keyboard for Christmas because I've decided to try to teach myself how to play. My brother has taught himself to play the guitar and he's amazingly good now without a single lesson, so hopefully I'm not too old to learn. So far it's going ok, at least I could read music already so that's a start.

2) Get fit again

Back when I was unemployed and had nothing to do except go to the gym I was so healthy and even had abs! I want to get back to being toned again, which will be tough since I haven't been to the gym the past two months (stupid exams). I'm still loving yoga classes and now want to start doing pilates regularly. I also will try to stop eating crap.

3) Be less moody

I get really grumpy when I'm tired and sometimes, particularly with family members, I realise I'm quite snappy sometimes, so I'm going to make an effort to be nicer!

Gluten free afternoon tea

Random photo off my camera:

Gluten free afternoon tea in West Hampstead, ten minutes walk from our house and so so yummy <3

Date cake, plum and blackberry cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, the nicest gluten free scones I've had and cucumber sandwiches!

It's probably good the opening hours are short or I'd be in there all the time.

(Can you tell I'm hungry? Time to make dinner!)

What colour should I dye my hair

I am bored of my hair again so thinking of trying a semi-permanent colour, which I may make permanent if I really like. Since I am at business school and not seeing clients or my boss at the moment I can go a little bit more extreme than I could otherwise(still have to wear business casual everyday though, grr). After having a pixie cut I'm trying to grow it out - it's nice to be able to tie it up and short haircuts require too much upkeep!

For those who don't know me in real life I have blue eyes and I'm very pale (some people just aren't meant to tan :(

The very red would be this kind of red though I'm not sure it's possible semi permanent!
Yay our windows were finally replaced! 6 months after we first asked the landlady!
